Ender: ephemeral stencils and urban narratives
Born in 1973, Ender grew up in Belleville, a neighborhood deeply influenced by the rise of Parisian street art in the 1980s. From childhood, the city’s walls inspired him. While pursuing a career as a professional actor, he developed a unique artistic practice, blending theater and urban art.
Ender’s works take shape through stencils painted on paper, which he then pastes onto walls. This technique serves a dual purpose:
- The multilayer stencil method, requiring multiple painting stages, makes direct outdoor application difficult.
- The fragility of paper reinforces the ephemeral nature of his work. Rather than a limitation, this impermanenceis an essential part of his artistic vision.
Ender’s creations appear suddenly in public spaces, like poetic apparitions. Their short-lived existence, subject to time, weather, or city clean-ups, is an integral part of his process. Each piece becomes a fleeting moment, a surprise for passersby.
The location of his works is crucial to Ender—the background itself becomes part of the artwork.
Jumble Gallery showcases and supports Ender’s work, highlighting his unique approach to stencil art. Through his interventions, he redefines the language of street art, playing with surprise and transience. His universe, filled with depth and sensitivity, leaves a lasting impression and invites viewers to see the city through a new lens.
