Raf Urban: the art of stenciling in service of diversity and hope

A self-taught artist born in 1971, Raf Urban grew up in the southern suburbs of Paris during the 1980s. Influenced by urban culture, he immersed himself in street life, discovering the graffiti and hip-hop movement flourishing in the capital’s neighborhoods—spending countless hours observing and drawing inspiration from it.

He was particularly drawn to the stencil technique for its efficiency, versatility, and ability to convey both activism and poetry. Over time, stencils became his primary artistic medium, allowing him to leave his mark on city walls.

As the creator and advocate of the Diversity Is Hope movement, Raf Urban uses his stencils of vibrant, colorful faces to spread a message of diversity, hope, and tolerance. His work also challenges the viewer to reflect on our ability to connect with others and live in harmony.

His art can be found on walls in cities around the world, including Paris, Turin, Rome, London, New York, Toronto, and Montreal.

Jumble Gallery showcases a selection of Raf Urban’s works, offering pieces that are both captivating and thought-provoking, reflecting the artist’s talent and deep commitment to his cause.
