Sébastien Bouchard: an artistic journey between cultural influences and exploration of street art

Sébastien Bouchard is a French artist with diverse influences, drawn to alternative culture from a young age. After graduating from the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Nantes Saint-Nazaire in 1996, he quickly moved away from conceptual formalism to focus on drawing and graphic design, embracing emerging digital tools.

Following a career as a graphic designer, Sébastien Bouchard spent the 2000s living abroad in Brazil and Guinea, where he returned to painting. In 2005, he settled in Senegal, setting up his studio and exhibiting his work at major events such as the Dakar Biennale and the Institut National des Arts in Bamako, Mali.

In 2010, he returned to Nantes, continuing to collaborate with artist collectives and galleries in West Africa. Between 2014 and 2016, he co-founded Prisme, a gallery-studio, alongside other Nantes-based artists.

For over a decade, Sébastien Bouchard has brought his work into public spaces through murals and collages across the U.S., Europe, and Africa. He also serves as an artistic director for residency projects in healthcare facilities and urban spaces. Recently, he co-founded Label Rue, a collective of four muralists from Nantes, and actively participates in art workshops.

Through portraiture, his work explores themes of otherness and individuality, blending his subjects with elements from various eras and cultures. Constantly seeking to merge popular and academic art, Sébastien Bouchard creates a visual dialogue that bridges artistic traditions.
